What is the difference between a scene, location and space?

In this article, we will clarify some definitions which are often used in our documentation or help desk page. Most imedu users will mainly create 'Spaces' with the 'Locations' that are available, however it is also possible for imedu users (with creator rights) to import 'Scene' to create unique 'Locations' and thus 'Spaces'.

The following definitions are all used to describe virtual worlds, but in different 'stages' of becoming a learning environment:

  • A scene is a 3D model of a single virtual world or room that you can visit with avatars.
  • A location is the name for a scene that is imported in the imedu Class manager.
  • A (learning) space is a collection of one or more 'location(s)' with a specific learning goal, lesson plans, and additional content
  • The lesson plan defines the learning goals, tasks, and instructions for students and teachers, in the virtual space.
