Instruction for working with Google Docs and imedu
Google Docs is an extremely useful tool to work on projects or writing together and most students will be familiar with this tool. In the virtual classes with imedu we want to encourage working together as well, therefore it would be great if we can use the familiar Google Docs while in the virtual space of imedu. Luckily, you can!
In the spaces created with imedu you can place different documents from Google Docs like documents, presentations or excel sheets in the form of an info panel.
This is done by sharing the link of the document or presentation in the space.
How it works:
- Copy the 'share' link from google doc
- Place it in the room using 'Place > Panel'
- You can open and work in the document
Thus all the benefits of working with Google Docs are still available in imedu. Furthermore, all the advantages of working with our platform add benefits like communicating with spatial audio.
Do Note, if students want to open the Google Docs without being logged in to their Google account imedu will show an error message.
To solve this make sure to be logged in to your account before opening the panel. In case students forget to log in and still click on the panel, they can not log in while the panel is open, so they need to open a separate browser and log in to their Google account.
Additional Information
- If you are not logged in to Google Docs , or don't have access to the document, the panel will give an error message
- You can not log in to Google Docs using the panel, unfortunately. So you need to log in yourself in a different browser tab and try again
- This means teachers need to invite students to the doc (and students need to be logged in), or the teacher can share the document with everybody on the internet (one of the default options when sharing Google Docs links). We should warn that technically people in your class are able to find that link if they try, and can share it with others, so when doing this... beware.
