Adding content to spaces

There are several ways to add content to your spaces. Here we will show how

Manually adding & placing content

In this tutorial video you can see how to manually add content to a space.

Adding items from your content library

Directly upload presentations, images, and videos

Things that don't fit in your content library, or that you want to include as a shared experience, can simply be uploaded directly in your space. Use the 'Place' button to add files, images, videos, links to other websites or presentations into the space.

Depending on the type of file, imedu will then try to display it directly (such as a video or PDF document), or otherwise display it as a link (e.g. in case you place a URL in the space).

Some tips:

  • Save presentations as PDF, these will be shown directly and students can browse with buttons
  • With a drawing program or presentation program, you can easily create posters and images
  • Don't have a drawing program? Posters are also easy to make in PowerPoint. Export the separate slide(s) as a JPG image and drag them into the room, or take a screenshot of the slide.
  • For sharing websites and articles, use the info panels (see below) for a better experience

Putting objects in frames with the 'Pin to...' functionality

Most of the time when you upload content directly you don't want a screen or object floating in the middle of the room but on a wall or screen. To make this easy, our rooms are furnished with invisible 'frames'. These are locations where you can place objects.

When you pick up an object, you see these frames light up. You can drag an object into a frame, and it will then automatically pin itself to the frame. But that's not always practical or fast. Therefore, it is better to use the 'Pin to' functionality. There are two ways to do this.

1) The simple method

  • Click with your right mouse button on the object
  • In the panel that appears below the object, click 'Pin to'
  • A list of all the frames in the room appears. The name describes the location
  • Choose the frame where you want to place the object and close the object menu.

2) ''The object menu''

If you are not near the object, you can also use the 'objects' menu:

  • Click on the 'Objects' menu to show all objects in the room
  • In the list, click on the object you want to put in a frame (hover over it for a preview).

To move manually you can 'pick up the object with your mouse and drag it. See the additional options below to see how you can resize or rotate it.

Useful options for objects

Like all objects in imedu, external documents also have specific options. To do so, press the space bar while hovering the mouse over e.g. the video. You will then get a number of options, depending on the type of document.Explanation of the options, from top to bottom and from left to right:

  • Pin:

When you 'pin' an object, it will stay in the room when you leave the room yourself. If you place an object in a frame with 'Pin to...' this happens automatically.

  • Rotate:

Click and hold down your mouse button. Move your mouse to rotate the object.

  • Zoom:

Click the button to place a copy of the object at "virtual chest height. This will continue to hover in front of you as you walk around.

  • Resize:

Click and hold down your mouse button. Move your mouse to resize.

  • Duplicate:

Click to make a copy of the object

  • Delete:

Click to delete the object

  • Open link:

Opens the link of the object in a separate browser window

  • Focus:

Click for a full-screen version of the movie or object

  • Refresh:

Refresh the link. Can be useful to reload the preview image

Using content & challenge modules (for Library spaces)

In order to make it easier to change the content and workings of a space, newer spaces in our library are equipped with 'content & challenge modules'.

This allow you to simple upload presentations, documents, links or puzzle settings in the CMS, and imedu will automatically update your space on the next visit. See the 'Instructions for organizers' if a space has content or challenge modules
